How to reach Nepal
To reach Nepal, you can follow these general steps, depending on where you're coming from:
1. By Air (International Flight):
- Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu is the primary international airport in Nepal.
- You can book a flight from your home country to Kathmandu, which is the easiest and fastest way to get to Nepal.
- Many international airlines operate flights to Nepal, including those from nearby countries like India, China, and other international hubs like Qatar, Turkey, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
- If you're flying from a country without direct flights to Kathmandu, you may have a layover in cities like Doha (Qatar), Dubai (UAE), New Delhi (India), or Bangkok (Thailand).
2. By Land (From India or China):
- From India: Nepal shares a long border with India, so you can reach Nepal by bus, car, or train. Major entry points are:
- Sunauli (near Gorakhpur, UP): One of the most common border crossings, from where you can take a bus to Kathmandu or Pokhara.
- Raxaul (near Bihar): Another entry point, with buses going to Kathmandu.
- Kakarbhitta (near Darjeeling): This entry is closer to eastern Nepal and cities like Biratnagar.
- From China (Tibet): You can enter Nepal via the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of China.
- The most popular entry point is through the Kodari border (near the town of Zhangmu, Tibet). From there, you can travel to Kathmandu by road.
3. By Road (Within Nepal):
- Once you're in Nepal, you can travel by bus, jeep, or car to your desired destination, like Pokhara, Chitwan, or the mountainous regions.
- For internal travel, local airlines also connect major cities and trekking destinations (e.g., Pokhara, Lukla).
4. Visa Requirements:
- Most travelers require a visa to enter Nepal. You can get a tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at land border crossings. Alternatively, you can apply for a visa before traveling at a Nepalese consulate.
- Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months from your date of arrival.
5. Things to Keep in Mind:
- Currency: Nepal's currency is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR). It's advisable to have some local currency on hand, though ATMs are available in major cities.
- Weather: Nepal has diverse weather, so check the season and pack accordingly, especially if you're heading to the mountains for trekking.
