Our beloved ascetic, Radhavallabhi saint, Shri Anirudh Kumar Pandey (Premanand Ji Maharaj's real name), was born into a simple Brahmin family. His family was always devoted to God. Premanand Maharaj Ji was born in 1972 in the last village of Sarasoul Block, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Premanand Ji Maharaj’s grandfather was also a sanyasi, and their home had a very sacred and God-devoted atmosphere. His father, Shri Shambhu Pandey, later accepted sanyas, while his revered mother, Shri Rama Devi Dubey, was a very religious woman who had immense respect for saints. Both of his parents regularly served saints at temples and other religious places. Maharaj Ji also had an elder brother. The spiritual environment at home further ignited the spiritual light in Premanand Ji’s heart.
Premanand Ji Maharaj began practicing prayers and rituals at a very young age. Even in childhood, when he was in the fifth grade, he began reading the Bhagavad Gita. At such a young age, he started deeply contemplating all aspects of life. It is said that once, he wondered whether the love of parents remains forever. He was constantly in search of spirituality.
Eventually, Premanand Ji Maharaj decided to lead a spiritual life and search for the path to reach God while still in ninth grade. He was ready to separate from his family for this noble cause. When he made this decision, he was only 13 years old. Without informing anyone, he left his home at 3 a.m. one morning. After leaving home at a young age, he took the vow of a celibate (Naishtik Brahmachari) and received a new name as a saint, 'Shri Anand Swaroop Brahmachari'. Later, he decided to take lifelong sanyas. After adopting the Mahakavya, he received another new name, 'Swami Anandashram'.

He never accepted an ashram or a hierarchical way of life. Most of his time was spent alone or with other divine saints. As a saint, Maharaj Ji never cared about weather, food, or clothing.
